Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay has always worked in a creative field, starting in New York City as a fashion stylist for some of the top department stores and magazines, Henri then graduated into art direction for renown stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Brooks Brothers and Bloomingdales. She brought these skills to interior design when she established the studio in 2004, designing and implementing interiors for residential houses. She has been featured in many publications and has been nominated to the House & Gardens ‘Top 100 Interior Designers List’ for the past 4 years.

Seeing the true potential of a property is the key to all of HFL Ltd’s projects. We enjoy transforming spaces and using our client’s possessions to make a cohesive story. “It is all about a careful edit, looking for inspiration everywhere and never dismissing things out of hand.”

The studio advises from concept through to completion, on all aspects of the design process. Designing layouts as well as working with architects, choosing finishes, specifying lighting and ironmongery is just the beginning. Known for her discerning eye when it comes to sourcing new as well as vintage and antique furniture the studio designs and commissions many bespoke pieces all of which makes HFL’s interiors unique and a joy to live in.

Collaborating with a group of trusted craftsmen the studio oversees the entire process. Known for referencing from the past and adding modern twists so that the finished project can never be dated to a specific time. “I want a client's house to relate back to who they are, to be recognizable as their own, and pull this together in such a way that it shows the very best of their collections in a fresh and beautiful home.”
